Each year TGCA Hosts the Spring Swing & Fall Food Golf Tournaments
The Spring Swing Golf Tournament is traditional held in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area at the beginning of April and hosted by TGCA’s Young Executives Division (YED) with Conwood Sales Company as the title sponsor. This tournament provides an excellent opportunity to build stronger working relationships between suppliers, wholesale distributors, and retailers. Additional details for the April 2008 tournament will be available November 2007.
The Fall Food Classic Golf Tournamentis an annual golf tournament traditional held in the Austin area in mid-September and hosted by TGCA with U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company as the title sponsor. The Fall Food Classic raises funds for its Political Education Committee (PEC) and offers suppliers, wholesalers, and retailers an excellent opportunity to network, discuss the issues facing the industry, and show their support of TGCA’s government relations efforts - all while enjoying some of the most beautiful golf courses in the Texas Hill Country. Lobby efforts of the TGCA have saved members of the food industry across the state of Texas millions of dollars. Much of the lobbying efforts for TGCA are funded by PEC, the Texas Grocery & Convenience Association Political Education Committee.
Funds from Political Education Committee are used to: Educate members of the legislature and the administration on regulatory and legislative issues that affect the food industry. Increase the political visibility of the food industry. Support key public policy decisions through a comprehensive political education program.
The PEC program monitors and tracks legislation, which affects food retailers, suppliers, and wholesalers. It also prepares and presents testimony to influence legislation.
Other aspects of the PEC program include: Weekly member updates during the legislative sessions, support or opposition to relevant legislation. Grass-roots support communicating with legislators on key issues.
