TGCA Scholarships - Application information will be posted in the Spring of 2011
IMPORTANCE NOTICE: Effective
February 12, 2009 the TGCA Board of Directors voted to open the TGCA Education Scholarship to all members. Prior to the change the scholarship was available only to Retailer Members. There will be three Scholarships available this year the
TGCA Scholarship,
W.A. McCarty Memorial Scholarship, each for $1,000 and a
YED Scholarship for $500.00.
Purpose The purpose of the foundation is to provide college scholarships and to support other such authorized educational endeavors, which the Board of Trustees approves.
This year the TGCA Education Foundation will award at least two (2) $1,000 scholarships and one $500 scholarship, sponsored by the YED.
Scholarships Awarded ~ TGCA's Education Foundation Scholarship awarded to any TGCA member. ~ TGCA's Education Foundation's W.A. McCarty Sr., Memorial Scholarship awarded to a TGCA Wholesale member. ~ YED Scholarship awarded to any TGCA member. Eligibility The recipient of the TGCA & the YED scholarship must be a part-time or full time employee who has been employed for at least six months by a TGCA member company as of June 1 of the year the scholarship is awarded. Or a dependent child of a permanent, full-time employee who has been employed by a TGCA member company for at least one year as of June 1, of the year the scholarship is awarded.
The recipient of the W.A. McCarty Memorial Scholarship must be a dependent child of a permanent, full-time employee who has been employed by a TGCA wholesale member for at least one year as of June 1, of the year the scholarship is awarded.
Procedure for Application Winners are notified in early July and presentation of award is made at the Texas Food & Fuel Expoduring
TGCA's Award Breakfast. Recipients are invited to attend, but not required. Expo & Convention registration will be mailed and posted on-line mid-May.
Requirements for Applicants
Be a full time student, or have been accepted as a full-time student, of an accredited college or university
Submit a personally written 500-2,000 word essay on the subject:
My Plans for a Future Career
Submit a High School or College Transcript along with your SAT or ACT scores

Applicants will be evaluated as to academic scores/ratings, honors and awards, school and community activities and leadership, recommendations, etc.
